London: Sourav Ganguly is determined to use his short stint with Northamptonshire County as a comeback vehicle to the Indian cricket team.

"I want to put runs on the board and get back into the national team. I'm not here from a financial point of view - it's important to perform," the former Indian captain said.

"I still feel I've got a lot of cricket in me and (I know) every run (made by me) will be watched," added the batsman who has been stripped of captaincy as well as a place in the Indian squad.

The left-hander's last international outing was the third cricket Test against Pakistan in Karachi in February this year.

Ganguly, who has previous experience of county cricket having played for Lancashire and Glamorgan, will cover up for Chris Rogers who is doing duty for Australia A.

"I come to this country every year for a holiday and I have a house in London so I thought I might as well go and play some cricket," he told BBC Radio.

The left-hander said playing in Twenty20, one-day and four-day cricket, will help hone his game.

He is expected to turn out for Northants on Sunday in the C&G Trophy game against Worcestershire and also line-up for the four-day game against Pakistan next month.

"I hope I can help the county and this is of mutual benefit to us. The conditions will also help my bowling, it swings around a bit and I enjoy this part of the world," he said.

"I have emotional attachments here because I played my first Test in 1996 at Lord's. I'm sure I can learn from the Northamptonshire players and it'll be good for both of us," he added.
