A public interest petition has been filed in the High Court challenging the land filling and construction activity by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation adjacent to the road near Sanjeevaiah Park abutting Hussainsagar lake.
The petitioner, Jasveen Jairath, former convener of Save Our Urban Lakes (SOUL), submitted that the land filling and construction activity fell within the lake area.
“The corporation has taken up construction of huge concrete pillars to put up permanent structure for vehicles which carry garbage. As per an order by the government, the said place cannot be used for such an activity as it is part of the lake area. Thus, any vehicle parking, maintenance depot, storage of garbage would adversely effect the quality of water in lake.”
There would be irreparable loss and injury if the construction is completed for vehicle parking, maintenance depot and storage of garbage near the lake, she noted and requested the court to pass an interim order for immediate stoppage of the construction work
