HYDERABAD: M T Krishna Babu took over as Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner on Tuesday with a promise of making Hyderabad the "best livable city". Incumbent Sameer Sharma was transferred on Tuesday.Krishna Babu is presently working as the chairman and managing director of APCPDCL. He worked as special commissioner of GHMC for a brief stint in 2009 and was appreciated for the smooth conduct of the GHMC elections and earned laurels from various quarters for the development of the city.Speaking to Express, Krishna Babu said that working as the GHMC commissioner would be a challenging job and he would do his best. "I will try to fulfil the aspirations of the chief minister and make the city the best livable city," he said. "I will work in coordination with all the elected representatives including the Mayor for the the development of the city," he added.Meanwhile, it was reported that Sameer Sharma's transfer was imminent due to the alleged differences with the GHMC Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and many corporators. In the last Council meeting held a few months ago, the commissioner had walked out of the meeting.Sources said that upset over the commissioner's behaviour, the Mayor and some corporators (irrespective of political parties) had met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and minister for municipal administration and urban development M Maheedhar Reddy and demanded his transfer."The mayor also brought the issue to the notice of AP state in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad when he was in the city recently," sources said.
