Ghulam Ali's music launch event in Mumbai cancelled, filmmaker alleges pressure by Shiv Sena

Mumbai: Pakistan's legendary ghazal singer Ghulam Ali's music launch event in Mumbai has been cancelled.

Filmmaker Suhaib Ilyasi has alleged that the Shiv Sena pressurised organisers to cancel the event. Ghulam Ali has acted and sung a song in Ilyasi's movie titled "Ghar Wapsi".

In "Ghar Wapsi", he has contributed to the song "Apni mitti ki khushboo hain rago mein yeh basi hai…choomenge isko shaan se. Humko toh pyaara hain yeh watan, apni jaan se."

The singer, who made an entry into Indian cinema with his popular song "Chupke chupke raat din" for BR Chopra's "Nikaah", was stopped from performing in Mumbai and in Pune in 2015 after the Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt his concerts. It led to a debate, with artistes from all sections urging that art be kept out of politics.

Back then, Ghulam Ali had said that he was sad, but his admiration for India remains undiminished.
