BHUBANESWAR:: The Women and Child Development Department is going to organise a workshop cum refresher course on Juvenile Justice Act on raising the standard of child care from April 23 to 28 at Gopabandhu Academy here.  The department has requested all the district collectors to send a member of the child welfare committee (CWC) and a senior staff of each of the child care institutions of their districts to attend the orientation and induction training programme.  After the training programme, the senior staff of the child care institutions from the districts will be the master trainer and train the other staff of their respective institutions about the proper implementation of Juvenile Justice Act. The Government will provide boarding and lodging facilities to all the participants of the workshop. However, the traveling expenses will be borne by respective institutions.  The Juvenile Justice Act, 1986 has been replaced by a new law called the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000. This new law is more child-friendly and provides for proper care as also for ultimate rehabilitation of children in need of care and protection.  Under the new Act, all juveniles cases should be disposed of within four months and it has been made compulsory to set up a Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee in each district.  Special emphasis has been given for rehabilitation and social re-integration of the children in disadvantage condition and the new law allows for adoption of a child by any community.
