Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday initiated the move to attach the property of Gyuto monastery of the 17th Karmapa Lama, Ugyen Trinley Dorje, at Sidhbari. The Karmapa Lama has been accused of having links with China after foreign currency worth crores was recovered from the Gyuto monastery.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has already said that the Karmapa had not yet been giben a clean chit following the discovery of unaccounted money from his monastery and offices.
Police on January 28 recovered foreign and Indian currency from the Karmapa Lama's monastery, Gyuto Tantric University and a monastery near Dharamsala.
The Karmapa has already been questioned by the police in connection with the foreign currency recovered from his monastery.
Sources say 1.14 lakh Chinese Yuan recovered from his office was in serial number. The total seized amount is Rs 7 crore including foreign exchange from 24 countries including China, Taiwan, japan, South Korea, the UK, the US, Australia, Germany.
