GTalk bug alert: Google Talk delivering messages to unintended contacts
We would recommend that you shouldn't share anything on Google Talk (or Hangouts) that you wouldn't want a third person to see.

Update 2 Google says, "the issue has been resolved and all services are gradually returning to normal."

Update: Google has confirmed that there is indeed an issue with Google Talk and the Google Talk team is "continuing to work to restore full functionality."

New Delhi: Many users on Google's popular Google Talk instant messaging service (also known as GTalk) are reporting that their messages are being delivered to unintended contacts, often resulting in embarassing situations.

There is no update regarding this serious privacy issue on Google's App Status Dashboard. In an update on the App Status Dashboard Google says, it is "investigating reports of an issue with Google Talk." and "will provide more information shortly." It is still unclear whether the issue is limited to users on the older Google Talk or is also impacting those who have moved to the newer Google Hangouts, that is replacing Google Talk as the Internet giant's instant messaging service.

Till the time Google fixes this issue, we would recommend that you shouldn't share anything on Google Talk (or Hangouts) that you wouldn't want a third person to see.

In our tests, it seems to have impacted only a portion of Google Talk users. Of the seven accounts we used to test this bug, only one had messages being delivered to unintended contacts.

What's your reaction?
