New Delhi: An official working with a multi-national company in Gurgaon was killed on Monday night. The family reportedly received a call for ransom of Rs 50 lakh from his cellphone moments before his death.
Friends and family of 28-year-old Praveen Chawla are waiting for his post mortem report at the Gurgaon mortuary. Praveen was allegedly murdered late on Monday night, shot at not once but four times and then strangled to death.
The Gurgaon SHO, Jagdish Prashad says, "He died of firearm injuries. There were four bullet injuries. We are not ruling out personal animosity."
The incident took place at around 10:00 hrs IST, while Praveen - an assistant manager with a real estate firm - was returning from his office in Sector 26, Gurgaon. He was speaking to a female friend over the phone when suddenly he was stopped and a gunshot was fired.
The police claim his father then received a ransom call of Rs 50 lakh.
Almost three hours later, Praveen's body was found abandoned in his car in sector 29. His mobile phone and car keys were missing.
While kidnapping appears to be the motive, police is not ruling out personal animosity. His family could not be reached for comment.
