Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat visited a hospital and met some of the injured, including children, who had sustained burn injuries in an acid attack during a scuffle between two families at Haldwani in Nainital district.

The chief minister directed the doctors to ensure that the injured get the best treatment.

"The patients will be given high-level medical treatment at AIIMS Delhi if need be and the cost of the entire treatment will be borne by the state government," the chief minister said.

As many as 19 persons including children and passersby sustained burn injuries in varying degrees on Tuesday when two related families clashed and threw acid on each other at Haldwani.

Rawat also issued strict orders imposing a ban on open sale of acid without permission from the administration.

"The District magistrates must take strong steps in this direction. Sale of acid without license will be considered a crime and offenders will be punished," he said.

The Chief Minister has announced a financial assistance of Rs one lakh for those severely injured, Rs 50 thousand for those who have not sustained serious injuries and Rs 20 thousand for those who have returned home after primary medication.
