HYDERABAD: Taking a serious view of ineffective enforcement of the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Determination Tests Act to prevent sex determination tests in hospitals in the state, the High Court on Monday issued notices to the state and central governments to respond on the issue in two weeks.Treating a letter addressed to the chief justice as a public interest litigation petition, a division bench comprising chief justice Madan B Lokur and justice PV Sanjay Kumar observed that the state stood eighth in sex determination tests. “We are taking this issue seriously, and we also want the government to be serious. This is not an ordinary issue and we want to do something about it. You (government) cooperate in this regard,” the bench said.A citizen, Amrita Ritu Ahluwalia, in her letter alleged violation of the Act by some prominent hospitals in the state and sought necessary action to save the girl-child.
