Four people were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as moderate to heavy showers on Thursday lashed several parts of the state where major rivers were in spate.

Four people were killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as moderate to heavy showers on Thursday lashed several parts of the state where major rivers were in spate.

Three people were killed in Pilibhit and one in Sitapur as south-west monsoon remained active in eastern parts of the state, officials said.  Baheri received 11 cms of rain, Lalitpur-10, Sahaswan and Thakurdwara- 9 each and Badun-5.

The MeT has predicted rain and thundershowers at many places with heavy rainfall at one or two places in the next 48 hours.  According to Central water commission, major rivers continued to flow over the danger mark at a number of places in the state.

Ganga which was flowing close to the danger mark at Fatehgarh, Ankin Ghat and Kanpur, was maintaining an upward trend from (Phaphamau) Allahabad to Ballia. River Sharda was flowing above the red mark at Palia Kalan and was flowing close to the mark at Shardanagar.

Ghaghra was flowing above the red mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia, officials said, adding that Rapti was also flowing near the danger level at Shrawasti, Balrampur, Bansi and Birdghat (Gorakhpur). River Quano was still above the danger mark at Mukhlispur in Sant Kabir Nagar.
