Heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorms lashed Karnataka’s capital city Bengaluru on Sunday evening disrupting several daily services for the general public in the city.
The Southwest Monsoon hit Karnataka leading to widespread rainfall in many parts of the coastal parts of Karnataka including Bengaluru.
A yellow alert for rainfall was issued for the state till June 6 by the India Meteorological Department.

In it’s official forecast, the weather office said, “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds is likely over the next seven days.”
Metro Services Disrupted
In view of the inclement weather, Bengaluru Metro services between MG Road and Indiranagar on the Purple Line were disrupted after a tree fell on the track.
In a conversation with Moneycontrol, a Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) spokesperson said, “”Namma Metro trains are operating only between Indiranagar and Whitefield and between MG Road and Challaghatta from 7:26 pm due to a tree branch falling on the track just after Trinity station towards MG Road. BMRCL is taking steps to clear the branch and resume normal operations.”
He further said that as of now, short loops are running between Indiranagar and Whitefield, as well as between Challaghatta and MG Road.
Traffic Congestion in City
The incessant rainfall also resulted in traffic snarls in several parts of the city. Joint commissioner of police (traffic) MN Anucheth, as quoted by Moneycontrol said, “There were water-logging at 68 locations, tree fall at 47 locations on major arterial roads of Bengaluru. Congestion is high and civic agencies are working to clear the roads”.

Traffic congestion was reported in areas like Nayandahalli Junction towards BHEL Road, Rajiv Gandhi Junction towards Mantri Mall, Rajaji Nagar near Lulu Mall and Yelahanka towards Kogilu Cross.

IMD Predictions For Monsoon in June
Earlier, the weather office forecasted the onset of monsoon in Bengaluru by June 14.
It was also anticipated that rainfall will commence in the state during the first week of June.
