New Delhi: Despite getting mixed reviews from critics and audiences, ‘Heroine’ earned Rs 25 crore in the first weekend. With Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda in the star cast, the film hit the screen on September 21, 2012.
Directed by National award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar, ‘Heroine’ lacks a concrete plot and failed to impress the audiences. Kareena Kapoor is earning accolades for her look and performance in the film. Film critic Taran Adarsh lately tweeted, “Heroine had a healthy weekend, but the jump in business was missing. Yet, as a standalone film, the numbers can be termed good. Heroine collected approx Rs 25 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup, Fri 7.5 cr, Sat 8.5 cr, Sun 9 cr.”
Ranbir Kapoor’s highly talked about film ‘Barfi’ was released a week before ‘Heroine’. Adarsh claims, “Barfi had a super-strong Weekend 2. It got affected, albeit slightly, on Fri due to Heroine, but gathered steam on Sat and Sun.”
Interestingly, ‘Heroine’ is doing pretty well in the overseas market. In the opening weekend, it managed to earn approx Rs 7.75 crore.
This week, Shreyas Talpade’s ‘Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG! Oh My God!’ will hit the screens. As there is hardly any buzz around these films, ‘Heroine’ and ‘Barfi’ still have chance to make money.
