A woman flying officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has accused a Wing Commander of rape and harassment in Jammu and Kashmir. An FIR has also been registered against the officer at Budgam police station.

In a statement, the IAF said the Budgam Police Station approached the concerned Air Force station for the investigation. The IAF is cooperating in the investigation.

“We are aware of the case. The Air Force Station in Srinagar was approached by the local Budgam police station on the subject. We are fully cooperating towards this case,” a senior IAF official said.

The victim in her complaint said that that she has been suffering harassment, sexual assault and mental torture over the past two years, NDTV reported.

According to the complaint, the Wing Commander allegedly sexually assaulted the Flying Officer in his room during a New Year party at the officers’ mess on December 31, 2023.

The victim further said that she was afraid to lodge the complaint. “There were instances before also wherein I was discouraged to report. He visited my office post this incident… He behaved as if nothing happened and there was no sign of remorse in his eyes,” she added.

The woman officer further said that she reached out to two other women officers and they guided her to file a complaint.

The FIR was lodged in Police Station Budgam on Sunday under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to rape by a person in a position of trust or authority.

Earlier in 2021, an IAF woman pilot complained that she was sexually harassed by her Flight Commander in Jammu and Kashmir.
