Impose President's rule in UP: Mayawati
"I again demand imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh. Since the Samajwadi Party came to power, all types of crimes are being committed. It has shaken the confidence of people," Mayawati told reporters here.

Lucknow: Accusing the Uttar Pradesh government of downplaying the death of woman allegedly set afire by policemen in Barabanki, BSP supremo Mayawati today demanded the government's dismissal over its "failure" to control law and order in the state.

"I again demand imposition of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh. Since the Samajwadi Party came to power, all types of crimes are being committed. It has shaken the confidence of people," Mayawati told reporters here.

She said the manner in which the woman, whose son is a journalist, was allegedly torched at a police station in Barabanki was shameful for the government.

Mayawati said even when the woman gave a statement, the Chief Minister was trying to downplay the incident by ordering a magisterial inquiry.

"He should have terminated the accused policemen and sent them to jail," she said. The former chief minister alleged that the SP government was protecting a particular community.

"The law and order has become anarchic and is turning towards 'jungle raj'. I demand that the governor should recommend President's rule in the state in public interest," she said.

Mayawati also took a dig at a recent dharna by BJP MPs alleging that they were indulging in theatrics. "If they are so concerned about law and order situation in UP then instead of indulging in theatrics, they should create pressure on the Centre to impose President's rule in the state," she said.
