In Chikkamagaluru, Women Participate In Raw Vegetable Eating Competition To Raise Election Awareness
Women, aged above 18, were permitted to compete in the contest involving eating five different vegetables.

In Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, a unique and interesting raw vegetable-eating competition was held on MG Road, or Mahatma Gandhi Road, Bengaluru. This competition was a segment of the election festival. According to Local18 Kannada, this contest was held exclusively for women and was organised by the horticultural department.

The district administration and the panchayat also assisted the department in organising this contest. Women, aged above 18 years of age were permitted to compete in the contest involving eating 5 different vegetables.

These vegetables included 750 grams of tomatoes, bitter gourd, beans, carrots and cucumbers. Despite the inclusion of a bitter vegetable like bitter gourd, the participants left no stone unturned to give their best in the contest. They also earned the applause of the onlookers thereby boosting their morale and confidence. A woman named Hemalatha managed to clear the 3 rounds of the competition and was declared the winner.

The onlookers gathered at the spot were curious to watch that how the contestants would cross the difficult task of eating the vegetables in raw form without any ingredient to accentuate their taste. The volunteers present at the site were seen explaining the rules and regulations of the game to the competitors. They were seen holding a pen and some papers and also kept noting down the time taken by the participants.

The vegetables to be consumed were arranged on the plates before the contestants. A glass of water was also kept in case the contestants found it difficult to digest the vegetables in their raw form. After some time in the competition, Hemalatha (the lady with the orange suit) was declared the winner. She jubilantly acknowledged all the appreciation for her by the viewers.

Amidst this refreshing experience, the district administration also found an opportunity to motivate the people to take part in the voting process.

A competition was organised on similar lines on MG Road, or Mahatma Gandhi Road, Bengaluru. According to Local18 Kannada, this was the Ragi Mudde (finger millet balls) eating competition comprising 3 rounds. At this competition, the district administration urged the people to take part in the voting process.
