New Delhi: The Indian chess team comprising of Krishnan Sasikaran, Pentala Harikrishnan and Koneru Humpy logged 22.5 points in the nine-round Swiss league at the XVth Asian Games in Doha to win the gold medal.
They drew 1.5-1.5 with Kazakhstan in the final round bringing India their 10th gold.
Grand Master (GM) Sasikiran drew with GM Darmen Sadbakassov, GM Harikrishna lost to GM Murtas Kazhgaleyev and GM Humpy defeated International Master Dana Aketayeva.
Humpy had also won the gold in the women's rapid chess.
"It is a good feeling to win another gold for the country. We were confident of winning the title before the competitions started, and its great to have done it," Humpy said.
India were assured of the gold after the eighth round as they had taken an unassailable lead over the other participants. China won the silver with 17.5 points and Iran claimed the bronze with 16.5 points.
Wrestling
Indian wrestlers won two bronze medals at the XVth Asian Games in Doha on Thursday.
In the 66kg freestyle wrestling competition Sushil Kumar won the bronze defeating Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan 3-1 in the play-off for the third place.
In the 120kg freestyle category Palwinder Singh Cheema beat another Kazakhstani wrestler Marid Mutalimov 3-1 to claim one more bronze for India.
Cheema has also won the bronze medal in the last three of the Asian Games.
However, two other freestylers - Vinod Kumar (55 kg) and Anuj Kumar (84 kg) - failed to reach the medal rounds.
Vinod defeated Sumreat Hun of Cambodia 3-1 in his first bout but lost his quarter-final bout to Taghi Dadashi of Iran to bow out.
Anuj ousted Marcus Girard Valda of the Philippines in the first round, then lost to Iran's Yezdani Reza in the quarters and later against Kazakh opponent Magomed Kurugliyev in the repechange to be eliminated.
