Indian Hockey Team headed to 'Boom'
Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsAfter a disastrous 2006, the Indian hockey team is desperate to make amends. Boom is the small town in Belgium, off the main highway into Antwerp where they have decided that the next team you will cheer for will be the Indian hockey team.
They did well to snatch a bronze medal in the Azlan Shah in Malaysia. It was a young team without the seniors and the played with a passion that seemed as fresh as plucked salad leaves.
Under coach Joaquim Carvalho the team has got it's confidence back and it helps when you have a coach who can in a matter of seconds kick-ass the team into doing it's job.
With Gagan Ajit Singh, Deepak Thakur and Ignace Tirkey told that they are over the hill, the youngsters have got the message - "we have the confidence in you. Now get on with the job and transform Indian Hockey."
whether they do it or not is not exactly the point here. Carvalho has said quite a few times that there is a script and the team is following it. Now whether the Indian team follows the script, beats the pants out of the five other nations and comes home head held high or once again are confined to the pits which is reserved for villains, only July second would tell; the day of the final.
There is a lot to cheer about - Sandeep Singh, the lanky Sardar who had made life hell for rival goalkeepers with his fiery penalty corners before a stray bullet kept him out for almost eight months, is back; Tushar Khandker, pacy with an evil turn into the striking circle that could shame Valentino Rossi on a GP curve will be the main goal poacher; Dilip Tirkey, muscled up and back in the team would once again be the 'wall' and of course, one of the youngest and most talented left-half Prabodh Tirkey as captain.
There is more than just hope. There is confidence in the air.
I would be there in Boom, bringing you the updates, analysis and also the excitement of last minute victories and hopefully not the despair of last second defeats.
Join in and cheer the Indian Hockey Team all the way to BOOM.
