10 Years Of Velaiyilla Pattathari: A Look At This Dhanush Film’s Box Office Collection

Dhanush is one of the most sought-after actors in Indian cinema, with films like Asuran, Captain Miller and Velaiyilla Pattathari to his credit. Velaiyilla Pattathari marked a turning point in his career trajectory and received a phenomenal response from the audience. This film, written and directed by Velraj, was reportedly produced on a budget of Rs 8 crore and ended up earning Rs 60-65 crore at the box office. July 19 marked 10 years of its release at the theatres. On this occasion, Dhanush shared a poster of this film on X. The poster showed him and actress Saranya Ponvannan sitting on a terrace and the latter trying to watch the sky with a small telescope. Dhanush captioned the poster, “10 years of VIP."

Velaiyilla Pattathari also starred actress Amala Paul, Samuthirakani, Vivek, and Surbhi. Dhanush produced it under the banner Wunderbar Films. This film is available for streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music for the film. It is to be noted that Dhanush named his character Raghuvaran after the late actor, who acted for the last time in Yaaradi Nee Mohini.

Besides brilliant storyline and acting performances, Velaiyilla Pattathari also struck a chord with the audience. One of the most famous tracks from this film is the Velai Illa Pattadhaari sung by Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander. Dhanush penned the lyrics of this track. It gives an insight into the endearing love story between Raghuvaran (Dhanush) and Amala Paul (Shalini).

Even after 10 years, the popularity of this track is intact amongst the listeners. One of them commented, “Trust me, this is the most underrated Dhanush song." Others couldn’t understand the lyrics of this track but still loved it.

Dhanush acted in Velaiilla Pattadhari’s sequel directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth Vishagan, following the success of Velaiilla Pattadhari. The sequel retained many cast members from the prequel, but it failed to perform at the box office. The audience opined that many scenes in the film failed to entertain the audience. Prominent Bollywood actress Kajol also acted in this film.
