A high-level team of doctors on Saturday inspected The controversy-hit SVR Ruia Government General Hospital and its pediatric unit, where 11 infants died allegedly due to negligence of doctors in the last few days and gave a clean chit to the doctors.
The committee comprising senior doctors from Niloufer hospital, Hyderabad -- Subramanyam, Murali Rao and Himabindu -- visited the hospital and inspected the conditions there on the directions of the Director of Medical Education. They also interacted with the parents of the children undergoing treatment in the hospital over the quality of treatment being provided.
Later, speaking to mediapersons, the committee members confined themselves to explaining the purpose of their visit and their answers to several questions were guarded.
“We are here to study the existing conditions in the hospital and make necessary recommendations to the government in our report. Hospital is having good infrastructure, good ventilation, better sanitation facilities,” they said while giving a clean chit to the doctors accused of negligence causing the death of infants in the last three days.
However, they admitted that there was shortage of staff, especially nursing staff. It is the nursing staff who take care of patients and monitor them round-the-clock. “The hospital, here is lacking in that aspect,” they observed. The committee members also observed that many of the cases were brought at the 11th hour to the hospital.
