PUDUCHERRY: Alleging irregularities in the disbursal of relief funds for cyclone Thane victims, Union Minister of State for the PMO V Narayanasamy on Monday urged the UT government to open a separate bank account for all contributions made towards relief, similar to the practice in Tamil Nadu.In 2004, funds contributed for Tsunami relief and rehabilitation to the Chief Minister’s relief fund went unaccounted, he said in a statement here. Narayanasamy said he had already pointed out irregularities in the utilisation of these funds and that the matter was now being investigated by the CBI. Similarly, several persons, organisations and companies are again donating to the CM’s fund towards relief for the those affected by Thane.Claiming that he had information that the CM was distributing funds only to some people in certain constituencies, Narayanasamy called for the constitution of a monitoring committee headed by the Chief Secretary, with other secretaries and heads of state as members, to ensure that the funds reach only those affected. The Minister also urged the Union Home Minister to send a Central team to Puducherry to review the action taken in providing relief and utilisation of relief funds.
