CHENNAI: Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday arrested an Income Tax additional commissioner along with a managing director of a city-based private educational firm and an auditor for taking a bribe of Rs 50 lakh. Apart from Chennai, the CBI also conducted searches in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Visakhapatnam and seized cash of Rs 58 lakh and over two kilos of gold jewellery.CBI sleuths said they arrested Income Tax additional commissioner Andasu Ravindar (45) of Andhra Pradesh along with P Kishore, managing director of Everonn Education Limited, Perungudi and an auditor, Uttam Chand Bora. Officials said Ravindar had taken a bribe of Rs 50 lakh from Kishore in which the auditor was also involved.Officials said Ravindar conducted a search on August 4 on the offices of Everonn Education Limited, which provides IT-enabled lessons in schools and is involved in other education-related businesses. The company was found to have concealed taxable income of Rs 116 crore. Officials said Kishore then contacted Ravindar through the auditor, Bora, and worked out a deal with him to suppress information about Rs 60 crore out of the Rs 116 crore tax default. For this, Kishore paid Ravindar a sum of Rs 50 lakh.
