ANANTAPUR: YSR Congress party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy lashed out at the state government for neglecting handloom weavers in the state. Jagan, who launched his 48-hour ‘Cheneta Deeksha’ in Dharmavaram town in the district on Sunday evening, came down heavily on the state government for its failure in addressing the problems of handloom weavers, who were in dire straits, unable to earn even Rs 50 a day.He said as many as 50 handloom weavers had committed suicide, of which 15 were from Dharmavaram alone, but no minister and no MLA had visited to console the bereaved families of these weavers. “Is the government aware of weavers suicides in the state or not ?’’ he questioned.Jagan said the main objective of his ‘Chenetha Deeksha’ is to make see the government the sorry state of weavers in the state. He said when YS Rajasekhara Reddy become the chief minister for the second time, he had allocated `312 crore for waiver of loans to the handloom weavers.He also accused the government of not implementing the fee reimbursement scheme. Earlier, Jagan left Pulivendula at 1 p.m. and on his way to Dharmavaram, unveiled the statue of YS Rajasekhara Reddy in Dorigallu village in Muddigubba mandal. At 4:30 p.m. he participated in a road show in Batthalapalle and reached the venue of ‘Chenetha Deeksha’ at 6 p.m.Scores of people arrived at the deeksha venue to welcome him.Large number of weavers from Dharmavaram participated in the programme on the first day. Anantapur MLA B Gurunath Reddy, Udayagiri MLA Mekapati Chandrasekhara Reddy, YSR Congress leaders Bhuma Nagi Reddy, Y Visweswara Reddy, district convener P Narasimhaiah, former ZP chairperson T Kavitha and others were present.
