Jain college girls take the cake on Friendship Day

Cakes and camaraderie marked the International Friendship Day celebrations at the Guru Shree Shantivijai Jain College for Women in Vepery on Monday. Girls from various departments baked cakes to spell out the word “friendship”, and decorated them vividly. Each display also had an explanation for the letter  — for example, F stood for the fun and frolic a friendship involves. The students enthusiastically explained their recipes and some had employed different techniques.

Ankita and Namrata of B Com had created a cake made with unconventional ingredients. “We used yoghurt and malai in the batter and instead of oil we used ghee,” said Ankita.

Some of the cast of TV sitcom Kana Kaanum Kaalangal were present. They tasted and judged which cakes were the best. Some displays involved heart-shaped cupcakes, chocolate chips and candy buttons. International Friendship Day is observed on the first Sunday of August every year.

It is marked by friendship bands being tied for those who are considered friends.
