Officials said post-mortem report confirmed Rafiq Hussain Nengroo had died of cardiac arrest.

Srinagar: A 22-year-old youth died of heart attack while he was allegedly chased by security force personnel in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

Rafiq Hussain Nengroo was sitting with his friends on a roadside shop on Saturday night on the main road near Gangoo village, 32 kms from Srinagar, when he was allegedly chased by security personnel who were on patrol duty.

Nengroo collapsed after a short chase and was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, officials said.

Post-mortem report confirmed Nengroo had died of cardiac arrest, they said.

Alleging that Nengroo had died after he was hit on the head by security forces, a group of people from his village staged a protest demonstration.

Soon after the youth was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard on Sunday morning, the mourners again took to streets demanding action against the security personnel allegedly responsible for Nengroo's death.

Police had to use batons to chase away the protesters; sources said adding tension was palpable in the area.
