Uma says she had refused to avail the security provided to her by the MP govt as she had "become suspicious".

Satna (Madhya Pradesh): Accusing some BJP leaders of conspiring to kill her, Bhartiya Janshakti President Uma Bharti on Thursday said she had refused to avail the security provided to her by the Madhya Pradesh government as she had "become suspicious".

"Though the top BJP leadership is affectionate towards me, the third line leaders want to see me destroyed and killed," Bharti, against whom two cases of attempted murder have been registered by state police in Chhatarpur, said.

On who these leaders were, she said, "Those emerging after (late BJP leader Pramod) Mahajan."

To a query, she alleged that for the last couple of months, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been asking security personnel deployed to protect her, why they were sincere and alert. "I became suspicious and returned the security," she said.

Earlier, Bharti had asked senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani to intervene and save the "terrorised" people of Madhya Pradesh from "the clutches of Chouhan".

Bharti also blamed Chouhan for the alleged attack on her motorcade at Shahrora village during bye-polls to the Bada Malhara assembly seat on October 30.

She broke down and wept while speaking to reporters in Chhatarpur on Wednesday, saying, "Whatever happens to me, at least take care of the people here. A few of them are very scared."

Bharti, who is expected to surrender to police on November 9, termed the attempted murder cases against her as a "mockery of democracy" and demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

Bharti claimed that she had a massive support of BJS workers who will take care of her security.

Accusing BJP of "paying off criminals for terrorising voters" during Bada Malhara by-polls, she alleged that complaints lodged by her with the Election Commission about it were not entertained.

She accused the police and administration of "sheltering criminals" and claimed that she had saved police officers on numerous occasions from criminals during the by-polls.

Claiming that BJP's "end" was nearing, the former chief minister expressed satisfaction over the "public support" BJS has received during the by-polls.

"A four-month-old party secured the second position. Congress was nowhere to be seen," she said.

Chouhan had been winning Vidisha Lok Sabha polls by a margin of 2.5 lakh votes. "Now BJP could barely muster a total of 2.5 lakh votes," Bharti said, claiming that it showed the public support for BJS.

Asked about the Chief Minister's comment that strength of party lies in the organisation, she said, "I don't feel the need to reply to a person who has called me names."
