THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On Friday, a real surprise was in store for those two-wheeler riders in the city with a helmet on their head. When they reached the Museum Police Station around 10 am, they were invited by the policemen to the the entrance of the Kanakakkunnu Palace and were thrilled to see superstar Suresh Gopi ready with a gift packet, which included a Parker pen. But all those who failed to wear a helmet were warned by the police. This was part of the awareness campaign on wearing helmets jointly organised by the City Police and the Thiruvananthapuram Road Development Company Limited (TRDCL). Suresh Gopi, famous for his fiery dialogues on silver screen as a duty bound cop against law breakers, had more pieces of advice this time to those erring citizens. “We should wear helmets when we ride two-wheelers if we love ourselves as well as our dear ones. More irresponsible are those who do not wear a helmet even after keeping it in the vehicle,” said Suresh Gopi, who came riding a Royal Enfield Bullet. Setting a good example, he had a helmet firm on his head, till he left the venue. “This is the continuation of the traffic awareness programme by the City Police, like the student police and sand sculptures at Shangumugham. It is for the first time we are associating with an actor for this. Today, those who erred were only warned, as it was the beginning of the awareness campaign. But next time onwards, they will be severely dealt with,” said City Police Commissioner T J Jose
