BANGALORE: The Union government has decided to conduct a socio-economic and caste census-2011 to implement various development programmes. For the first time, tablet PCs are being used in the census operations. Accordingly, the state has also decided to conduct a census in the state.The state government has made the following preliminary arrangements to carry out the census.Abridged house list and NPR data has been sent to the charge centres from the directorate of census operationsCharge centres have been set up as per the specifications of Bharat Electronic Limited (BEL).Cataloguing and tagging work has been started in the charge centres.Data entry operators appointed by BEL.Enumerators and supervisors appointed and trained.Census operations will commence in two phases. The first phase covers 16 districts of Bangalore and Belgaum divisions. The second phase covers 14 districts of Gulbarga and Mysore divisions.The areas covered in Bangalore division include: Bangalore urban and rural, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Davangere, Kolar, Ramnagara, Shimoga and Tumkur. Belgaum division includes: Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Uttara-Kannada.The second phase in Mysore includes: Mysore, Chamrajnagar, Chikmagalur, Dakishna-Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya and Udupi. Gulbarga division includes: Gulbarga, Bidar, Bellary, Koppal, Raichur and Yadagiri.
