THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Unlike Monday when the Speaker was at the receiving end, the Assembly on Tuesday saw at least three leaders, including Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan, tendering apologies to G Karthikeyan on separate incidents of violation of code of conduct. In the released video footage, Mohanan was seen about to jump towards the Opposition members in the well of the House. CPM leader M A Baby had given a written complaint to the Speaker terming it as an act of disrespect to the House. The Speaker said he summoned Mohanan to his chamber and the Minister said that if there was any misconduct on his part, it happened after being provoked by the LDF MLAs. He said Mohanan had registered his regret over it.Meanwhile, Govt Chief Whip P C George said the LDF MLAs had hurled abuses at Mohanan which made him lose his temper. The Speaker said CPM leader Kadakampally Surendran, who had gone to the well of the House on Monday night to meet the CPM MLAs who were sitting on dharna there, called him in person and regretted the incident. “He told me that he was unaware that only MLAs are allowed inside the House,” Karthikeyan said. Congress MLA Bindu Krishna too tendered her apology to the Speaker in connection with faxing of a statement about Friday’s incidents to the media from his office. She said this was done by someone accompanying her to the Speaker’s chamber and she was kept in the dark about it.
