KOCHI: A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking a directive to the state government to conduct an inquiry into the ‘Thirukesham’ (holy hair) controversy and take necessary action. The petitioner UC Aboo of Kozhikode submitted that Kanthapuram AP Aboobaker Musaliyar is trying to exploit the Muslims across the state by making false claims that the hairs collected by him from somewhere were the relics of Prophet Muhammed. The petitioner contended that Islam does not promote or permit worshipping of remains of any person, including that of Prophet Muhammad, though the Muslims are attaching importance to the relics of Prophet Muhammad. Aboobaker Musaliyar is aware of this aspect and he is bent on making use of the sentiments of poor uneducated Muslims for making illegal gains.“The hairs in the custody of Musaliyar are not that of Prophet Muhammad and there is no satisfactory evidence in his possession. The Centre had issued a directive to conduct an inquiry into the issue but even after eight months the state govt has not taken any action,” the petition pointed out.
