Washington: The visit of the Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to Kabul was good and well timed, the United States has said even as it awaited the details of the trip from the two countries.

"We look forward to a debrief from both Afghans and Pakistanis on the visit, but from what we can tell so far, it seems to have been a very good and well-timed visit," the State Department spokesperson, Victoria Nuland, told reporters in Washington on Thursday.

"We have always supported good neighbourly relations and dialogue and collaboration on the security side, on the political side, on the economic side between Afghanistan and Pakistan," she said.

Noting that there have been very positive statements from Khar's visit about Pakistan's support for an Afghan-owned process of reconciliation, she said, "That's something the Afghans have wanted to hear, that we think will be helpful to the process. So we need to see where that goes."

On Wednesday, Khar visited the Kabul to mend relations between the two countries that broke down last year after the assassination of former Afghan president Burhanuddin Rabbani.
