TIRUNELVELI: A day after leaders of the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) called off their indefinite fast, anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant Project (KKNPP) protestors started a relay fast at Idinthakarai on Wednesday. After the government gave its nod to commence work at the Plant on March 19, 13 persons, led by PMANE coordinators S P Udaykumar and Pushparayan, started an indefinite fast at Idinthakarai. On Tuesday, talks were conducted at Radhapuram, during which, Tirunelveli Collector R Selvaraj agreed to relax the prohibitory orders imposed on all other areas except Kudankulam. Udayakumar and the others subsequently ended their indefinite fast.Pushparayan told Express that he and Udayakumar did not participate in Wednesday’s fast as they wanted to take rest. Reiterating the demand to release the arrested agitators, he said that fishermen from the southern district struck work and shops did not open in Idinthkarai to express solidarity with the protesters.
