Kolkata: Left victory in West Bengal has got support from unusual quarters, the industrialists and the youth.
They are the neo-Buddhists, supporters of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
The celebrations didn't start early, it did at around half past eleven when the Left was assured of a resounding victory.
And while the red brigade took on the blazing sun, industrialists rejoiced in air-conditioned chambers.
"For me it's a feeling of great happiness, great delight, it's a feeling of great security. I think this government has delivered on all fronts," said vice-chairman, RPG Enterprises Sanjiv Goenka.
A large section of the youth in Kolkata is just as happy as businessmen in the city. They might not care much for Left ideology but the fact that Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is going to lead another innings is what makes them happy.
"Feel happy but down the line West Bengal is a one man show and that's Buddhadeb. He does the magic and that's it," said footballer Baichung Bhutia.
"I think I am really happy because the Left Front has been winning for the last 29 years if I am not wrong. And you know for the past five years, you've seen the number of flyovers coming up and all the development is pretty much evident," agreed a student of St Xavier's College Disha Duggar.
The overwhelming victory puts a bigger responsibility on the Chief Minister's shoulders already weighed down by huge expectations.
