Less Visibility of Uniform, Shorter Shifts For Staff: Committee to Review Airport Security Submits Recommendations to MHA
The committee headed by former DG NSG/DG BCAS MA Ganapathy has submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs with its recommendations.

A report submitted to the Indian government has recommended airports to be more “tourist friendly”, with less visibility of uniform. According to sources, the committee has recommended more alertness and that shifts be reduced from 8 hours to 2 hours on rotation basis.

The committee headed by former DG NSG/DG BCAS MA Ganapathy has submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs with its recommendations.

The committee has recommended that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) should be seen more outside airport buildings than inside, according to sources. “They should be relieved of ticket checking jobs and should purely do security jobs. Tickets should be checked by private agencies for more effectiveness,” the committee has recommended.

It has also been recommended that the CISF should be given strong devices like night vision and thermals.

The committee has also recommended training for airport staff saying it is an important part and it should be matched with best airports of the world.

Special airport cadre has also been recommended so that they cater to special needs since only the airport sector has major human interface. The committee added that all facilities to airport staff should be same across India.

Sources said the report will be studied and is likely to be implemented by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). While Ganapathy was not available for comment, BCAS sources said they were going through the report and will implement the recommendations after consulting all parties including private players.
