CUMBUM: Four elephants were killed by lightning in the Periyar Tiger Reserve at Thekkadi on Kerala border on Saturday.Kerala has been experiencing heavy rains with thunder and lightning during the past few days. When officers of the Periyar Tiger Reserve were patrolling forest areas on Saturday morning, they found two tuskers and two female elephants lying dead at Kokka between Rani and Pamba.On information, Deputy Director of the reserve Sanjayankumar led a team of officers. Postmortem revealed that the elephants had died of lightning two days ago.
