New Delhi: To mark the third day of the London Olympics 2012, Google has replaced its usual logo with a new doodle - London 2012 fencing. The new doodle shows two fencers fighting against each other using bladed weapons.
The letter 'L' in "Google" is shown as one of the bladed weapons being used by one of the fencers, while a helmet on the head of a fencer is modishly depicted as the first 'O' of the word "Google". The rest of the letters are placed in the playing area near the boundary. The London 2012 fencing doodle is the fourth London Olympics doodle.
The Fencing events at London 2012 Olympics are scheduled from July 28(Saturday)to August 5(Sunday). At London 2012, 35 Fencing pistes will be used during competition. There are 10 events - men's and women's Individual Epee, Foil and Sabre, men's Team Foil and Team Sabre, women's Team Epee and Team Foil - which are scheduled to be contested. The number of participants in Fencing events are 212 - 105 men and 107 women.
Each country is limited to eight men and eight women across all events, which equates to three athletes in men's and women's Individual and Team Foil, men's Individual and Team Sabre, and women's Individual and Team Epee, and two athletes in men's Individual Epee and women's Individual Sabre.
Fencing takes place on a piste, 14 metres long and between 1.5m and 2m wide. There are no Indian participants in the fencing events at London 2012.
Monday's Google doodle is the second fencing doodle posted by Google during the Olympic Games. The first fencing doodle was posted by Google during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
On Day Two (Sunday) of London 2012, Google came up with the London 2012 Diving Google doodle. It had a female diver in position for the plunge on the diving board over a pool that has the Google logo painted on the bottom.
On Day One (Saturday) of London 2012, Google posted an archery doodle on its home page that showed a female archer taking aim at a bullseye, the target is strategically placed over the middle 'o' on the Google logo painted on the wall.
On Friday, Google put up its London 2012 Opening Ceremony doodle that showed five athletes on the track holding the letters of the Google logo. The Olympic disciplines depicted on the Google Olympics opening ceremony doodle were football, swimming/diving, running/jumping, javelin throw, fencing and basketball.
Google's daily Olympic doodle tradition began back in 2000 during the Sydney Olympics and continued through the 2002 Winter Olympics (Salt Lake City, USA), 2004 Athens Olympics, 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
