CHENNAI: In a debate, the State Assembly on Wednesday discussed if welfare schemes were discontinued whenever a rival party took over the government.S Duraimurugan (DMK) said the government should not discontinue projects that came up during DMK regime. He referred to the Anna Centenary Library and the Secretariat-Assembly complex and added that it was public money being “wasted” as the new ‘Secretariat’ was not used.  Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan objected to the use of the word ‘waste,’ and stressed that the building will  house a hospital which would serve the public. He said that the choice of location was flawed and that the building was inaugurated by several ministers amid much fanfare by using fake structures even before it was actually completed.Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said, “Only six departments functioned from the new place and the other 30 departments continued to be in Fort St. George. It created a lot of confusion.” Social Welfare Minister B Valarmathi said it was the DMK which had discontinued schemes (when it assumed power) implemented during the AIADMK regime like the Integrated Women Sanitary Complex project and the Cradle Baby Scheme.
