Guna: Seven children aged 10-16 years drowned in ditches dug for illegal mining in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday while they were taking bath.
The ditches were reportedly dug up for illegal mining that happened in the area. The young ones were out to collect money for Navratri celebration after which they decided to take a bath. They were reportedly unable to judge the exact depth of the ditch when they decided to step in.
Local police took out the bodies and later send them to the hospital for post-mortem.
Even more shocking were the allegations that the bodies had to taken to the hospital by a tractor owing to unavailability of ambulances or any vehicles that were to be provided by the administration.
The victims were identified as Dillu Ahirwar, Hemant Ahirwar, Dipil Khushwa, Vikas khushwa, Karan Ahirwar, Gollu and Anand.
The incident reportedly occurred in the constituency of Congress MP Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia.
"We call for a time bound enquiry, the state government must explain. It’s a case of government apathy that the bodies of children were taken in tractors. Illegal mining is rampant on Madhya Pradesh," Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia to CNN-News 18.
Police will start their investigation from Monday post the completion of the paperwork. A probe has been ordered against the illegal mining activities too.
