Maharashtra LoP Demands Ban on Flipkart For Selling Weapons
The weapons were ordered by 24 people from various parts of Aurangabad. Eight arrests have been made till now.

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has demanded ban on e-commerce company Flipkart.

The demand comes after a cache of sharp weapons ordered from Flipkart was seized from Aurangabad district of Maharashtra on May 29.

LoP Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said, “Situation in Aurangabad is returning to normal, at such a time the police have seized 27 sharp weapons ordered from Flipkart. Such open trade of weapons is illegal and a threat to the society. The government should ban such websites that deal in weapons.”

Vikhe Patil has also demanded an investigation in this case to find out if the weapons were ordered to disturb law and to probe if it has any connection with the recent incidents of violence in Aurangabad.

Twenty seven weapons, including swords, knives, kukris and daggers, were seized just 15 days after the violence that killed two people.

The weapons were seized from godowns of Flipkart and Instakart services located at Nageshwarwadi and Jai Bhavani Nagar in Aurangabad.

The weapons were ordered by 24 people from various parts of Aurangabad. Eight arrests have been made till now.

Two people were killed while several others, including 10 policemen, were injured in the violence that erupted on the night of May 11. The violence started when two groups clashed in Shahganj area of Aurangabad.

The clashes took a violent turn after a mob armed with sharp weapons, stones and petrol bombs had attacked a few persons in Motikaranja area.

The violence later spread to Shahganj, Chelipura, Motikaranja and Raja Bazar areas of Aurangabad.

Seventy people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the riots.
