Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee did a U-turn on Thursday saying she wanted industry in Singur.
She demanded land for a Railways coach factory in place of the automobile factory in Singur.
Addressing a rally on Thursday, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee said there is no need for so much land for automobile industry in Singur.
She wants to set up a railway coach factory at the place where the Buddhadeb government is planning a automobile industry.
"We want industry in Singur but only on the 600 acres, but return 400 acres. Give land for a coach factory, I can set up a factory there. Why do you need so much land for automobile factory?" said Mamata.
Just four days ago, West Bengal Chief Minister visited the area and promised to bring back industry to the region if people asked for it.
Singur had become a flash point between the two big players of Bengal politics when Mamata drove Tata's Nano project out of the state.
