Washington: The Welsh physicist who has been the inspiration behind The Da Vinci Code's protagonist would have been happier, had Australian actor Mel Gibson portrayed the character onscreen.
Dr Robert Lomas, who is said to have inspired the Robert Langdon character in Dan Brown's best seller, the movie version of which has caused an international uproar among Catholics about the controversy surrounding Jesus and Mary Magdalene, has been a fan of Gibson's strong acting ever since seeing the 1995 epic Braveheart.
"I've got nothing against Tom Hanks personally, but my wife isn't too keen on him,” Contact music quoted the intellectual, as saying.
"In an ideal world I'd quite like to have been played by Mel Gibson. I keep thinking of Braveheart and I think my wife and I would be happy with him," he had added.
The Da Vinci Code premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday.
