Of late, the city nights have been quite chilly. One would usually love a hot cup of coffee with a nice book to read near the fire-place. This could be a pleasant evening. But, the perfect evening is when you, break your monotonous life, meet some buddies, grab some beer and listen to a band playing their hearts out. This was the scene at Hard Rock Cafe when one of Bangalore’s well known bands Slain performed.Slain has been popular among localities as they have played across the city, in various college fests and events. They paid a little visit to Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday to show Bangaloreans what music is all about and how you can perfect it. This progressive rock band, performed over ten songs all original and most of them being from their first album Here and Beyond, which was released recently. The band like always put up a good show. Two songs stood out the most in their set-list and were enjoyed the most by the crowd. Your Majesty a song from the new album, was love at first hearing for many.A combination of melodic notes on the keyboard with some heavy distortion and rhythmic beats on drums — the song was just the right thing that people needed that evening. This was the first song they performed and set the mood for the entire night. To end their performance they used one of the most loved songs from their early days as a band, called You don’t have to be a star which was the perfect end for the perfect evening. The six-member band consists of Ranjit Abraham on vocals, Bryden Lewis on guitar, Manek D’Silva on guitar, Naresh Nathan on bass, Jonathan Wesley on keyboard and Joe Jacob on drums. The band has been in the music scene from 2007, and started out as a college band.Their popularity grew with time and have been loved by many. Naresh said, “This band was formed when we all were in college. We used together and jam for fun and take part in various college fests all across the city. And, soon we started headlining college fests.”After graduating from college, the members of the band still find time from their responsibilities and come up with some brilliant songs each and every time. Naresh said, “ When we were at college, we used to practise at least five days in a week. Now we all have jobs and other responsibilities, which makes it hard for us to find the time. When ever we practice, we jam for six hours.”This band is unlike any other progressive rock band. Each of their song, has an element of metal and melody. Naresh said, “When we jam, we just play what we like or what we feel is right. Since we all have different taste in music, we all add our own element of music to each song.” The band also said that they have been blessed to be a part of the Bangalore music scene. Naresh said, “ We are so grateful to be in Bangalore. We grew up here, we just love it. I feel the city, is open to all kind of music and encourages young artist. We also love the support we are getting from the crowd of Bangalore.”
