Mild quake jolts Delhi, Uttaranchal
Just a day after powerful tremor measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale rocked the Kashmir valley and PoK, a moderate intensity quake rocked Uttaranchal.

New Delhi: A moderate intensity earthquake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, shook the national capital and Uttaranchal at 1239 IST on Wednesday.

The quake was epicentred in Badrinath area of Chamoli district in Uttaranchal, Met Department said. The state lies in the highly earthquake-prone seismic zone IV.

In Uttaranchal, the quake was felt in Chamoli, Uttarkashi and nearby areas of Garhwal and people ran out of houses and offices when the quake struck. Mild tremors were also felt in some parts of the state capital, Dehra Dun.

There was no immediate report of any casuality or damages.

The quake comes a day after a powerful earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir and parts of Pakistan, triggering panic among the people.

The earlier quake, which measured 6.8 on the Richter scale and was epicentred in the Hindukush region of Afghanisthan, had struck at 0317 hrs (IST) on Tuesday.
