VIJAYAWADA: Mild tremors of low intensity shook some places in Krishna, Guntur and Khammam districts between noon and 12.30 pm on Thursday. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported. According to sub-collector S. Venkat Rao, people, feeling tremors, ran out of their homes. Tremors were recorded in Nandigama, Jaggaiahpet, Penuganchiprolu, Chndarlapadu, Kanchikacherla and Veerulapadu mandals in the district.Though the quake lasted only a few seconds, it brought down articles from cup-boards and tables,” said Sangavarapu Sekhar Babu of Nandigama in Krishna district. Bezawada Nageswara Rao, another resident of the town, said they had heard a sound like that of an approaching helicopter before they felt the tremors.Khammam district too experienced a mild earthquake. Revenue divisional officer V.Venkateshwarlu said mild tremors, lasting 12 to 14 seconds, occurred in Yerrupalem, Madhira, Chintakani and Bonakallu mandals. He said that the tremors last for only 12 to 14 seconds.“We felt some strange things happen in our house. Utensils fell off the shelves. Scared, we left everything and ran out,” said Fathima of Denduluru village in Madhira mandal. ``I saw my neighbours also come out of their homes. I called up my friends and relatives thereafter. It happened between noon and 12.15 pm. Some said there might be an earthquake by evening,” she recalled.Reports of an earthquake also came from some parts of Guntur district.
