HYDERABAD: Majlis-e-Ittehadul- Muslimeen (MIM) MLA Virasat Rasool Khan was taken into the custody by city police on Thursday after he allegedly tried to push an on-duty assistant commissioner of police L T Chandrasekhar while he was trying to control the crowd gathered at Sarojini Devi Eye hospital in a row involving construction of a religious structure on the road side.City police said that locals of a community residing opposite to SD Eye hospital tried to construct a small shed at a location for performing religious activities.But locals of another community took objection to the construction leading to tense situation between both communities.It was at this situation that Rasool Khan entered the scene and allegedly took strong objection to the construction of the shed. When the situation was about to take a communal turn, police, led by Chandrasekhar, tried to intervene and pacify the people of both the communities.Personnel of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were also present in the area as part of bandobust in view of the alert sounded in the city following the Mumbai attacks.However, the MLA allegedly tried to push the ACP after entering into a heated argument. Police immediately took him into custody but his supporters tired to resist.However, deputy commissioner of police (west zone) Stephen Ravindra told Express that the MLA did not assault the ACP.“We took Rasool Khan into custody since he was instigating the public who gathered at the scene,” Ravindra said.
