New Delhi: Karni Sena goons protesting against the release of ‘Padmaavat’ did not even spare little children and attacked the bus of GD Goenka School in Gurugram on Wednesday.
Kids as young as four or five years old had to crouch down in the space between seats to save themselves from the stones being hurled at them. Students from nursery to Class 12 were in the bus along with teachers and the attendant staff.
A video of the bus being caught in the mob violence was captured by a passerby. It shows the youngest kids trying to muffle their cries and being helped by the staff.
The attendants in the bus said that there were cops nearby but they failed to control the situation. They wrapped the students in their arms to protect them. According to eyewitnesses, pieces of broken glass fell on the head of some children. The extent of their injuries, if any, is not known.
Parvesh Kumar, the bus driver, told News 18 that around 20-25 kids were in the bus at the time of the attack. GD Goenka School will remain shut on Thursday, as the school authorities feared more violent protests.
Just in front of the school bus on Sohna Road was a state-run bus, which sources said was torched by the same group that attacked the bus.
The violence happened despite Haryana Police's assurance that nobody would be allowed to disrupt peace ahead of the film's release on Thursday. Hundreds of supporters of the fringe Rajput group also disrupted traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur national highway.
At Khidki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, Karni Sena supporters blocked traffic. A few of them damaged toll booths and vehicles there, a police official said.
The police said restrictions under Section 144 of the CrPC had been imposed. "We have already imposed (prohibitory orders under) Section 144 of the CrPC in the city but not directed pubs and bars to shut. All pubs and bars will remain open. The police are undertaking adequate patrolling," Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said.
