Modi tops 'No' list in Time magazine poll
Modi tops 'No' list in Time magazine poll
The results of the poll, watched closely by Modi backers as well as baiters, will be declared on April 17.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has finished third in the Time magazine's global poll on the 100 most influential people. The two who got ahead of Modi are a group of hackers called Anonymous and anti-piracy law champion Eric Martin after a nail-biting finish. However, what may have disappointed Modi backers more is that the BJP leader got more 'No' votes (266684) than the 'Yes' ones (256792) when the readers were asked whether or not he should be included in the prestigious list.

The Time poll was closely watched by both Modi supporters as well as baiters across the world. The magazine's second endorsement was something that the Modi camp was eagerly looking forward to, after the Gujarat CM's PR machinery had succeeded in putting him on the cover of the magazine last month. However, an equally aggressive Vote Modi Out campaign organised by activists across the world succeeded in pushing the Gujarat CM down the list and even ensuring more negative votes for him.

Modi recently had been trying to get rid of the Gujarat riots taint by organising a series of Sadbhavna fasts across the state. It should be noted that Gujarat goes for Assembly polls at the end of the year in which Narendra Modi will seek a record fourth term.

The Time magazine poll, started two weeks ago, had shortlisted 200 names out of which an online poll was conducted to select the top 100 for the US magazine's next edition. The results of the poll will be declared on April 17.

For more on the poll and the magazine's other stories, IBNLive invited Aparisim 'Bobby' Ghosh, Time's Editor-at-Large for a chat on Monday. Read the transcript here.
