The 42nd state conference of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha  has urged the government to allot Rs 25 crore for ensuring the smooth functioning of the Forward Communities Commission.

“The Rs 5 crore allotted by the state government was inadequate,” the representatives’ session of the Kerala Brahmana Sabha said in a resolution here on Sunday. The resolution urged the government to provide 10 per cent reservation to the economically-backward students belonging to the forward  communities in admission to professional courses.

The KBS said that 10 per cent reservation should be given to the economically backward classes in the PSC. It sought a pension of `2000 to the financially-backward members of the forward communities. “Brahmana Sabha members should be given positions in the Devaswom Boards, the PSC and other boards, besides the membership in schools, colleges and professional institutions in all districts,” the resolution said. The KBS said a special grant should be allotted for the protection of the ancient structures in the Agraharams. Besides, exemption in the building rules should be provided for the renovation of houses in the Agraharams. The other demands of the KBS were: Sanskrit should be accorded the status of the second language, Avani Avittam and the birthday of Adi Sankaracharya should be declared as public holidays and the Nedumbassery airport should  be named after Adi Sankaracharya.

The KBS delegates’ session was inaugurated by SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan at the Uduppi Sree Krishna temple auditorium. KBS state president V Ramalingam presided. KBS central zone president P S Raman, north zone president N R Krishnamoorthi, south zone president N Hariharan, Alappuzha district unit president G Mony,  KBS state treasurer  K G V Pathi and  state general secretary P Anantha Subhramanyam spoke.
