The State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh decided to boycott judicial work on July 8 on Friday in protest against the alleged murder of the Leader of Opposition in the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) and Ujjain Advocates' Association president Prem Kumar Yadav on July 2.
"Advocates working in the high court and subordinate courts across the state will stay away from judicial work on July 8 in protest against Yadav's murder," State Bar Council president Shivendra Upadhyaya said.
He said that incidents of attacking lawyers is on the increase in the state and demanded that the state government constitute a special team to probe them as well as take stern action against those involved in such crimes.
Upadhyaya said that the State Bar Council's proposed Advocate Protection Bill was pending with the Madhya Pradesh government for a long time and demanded that the government should convert it into law during the coming monsoon session of the MP assembly, so that lawyers can discharge their duties without any fear.
