Nadal did not have much trouble in brushing aside the challenge of Berdych.

New Delhi: Spain's Rafael Nadal booked his place in the semi-finals of the Wimbledon tennis tournament with an easy straight sets win over Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Nadal, who was playing for the fifth consecutive day in the tournament, did not have much trouble in brushing aside the challenge of Berdych 7-6 (1), 6-4, 6-2.

It was only in the first set that No. 7 Berdych, who was playing in the quarter-finals at a Grand Slam for the first time, challenged the world No. 2 which went to the tie-break but after that it was Nadal all the way.

Losing his serve just once in the first set, Nadal quickly recovered and stamped his superiority over the Czech breaking him in the opening games of the second and third sets.

Nadal wasted two match points and finally won the match when Berdych's forehand crashed into the net.

"I had to concentrate with the movement because the ball was very difficult to touch," Nadal was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. "Today was very tough with the wind, but anyway I played very good," Nadal said.

The quarter-final was a much easy outing for Nadal after he had been forced to five sets in the previous two rounds.

Nadal will meet the winner of the Novak Djokovic vs Marcos Baghdatis quarter-final match on Saturday and if he makes it to Sunday's final then it would be the seventh consecutive day on court for him.

The Spaniard was the losing finalist last year to world No. 1 Roger Federer and is on course to become the first man to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year since Bjorn Borg achieved the feat in 1980.
